Kitchen Cabinet Painting in St. Louis: Take a Closer Look!

Painting kitchen cabinets is all the rage these days, there’s no doubt about it. It’s a fast, cost-effective way to totally transform your kitchen, creating value and style without breaking the bank.

This level of interest has prompted a lot of painters to quickly slap together “cabinet painting services.” In many cases there’s no ill intent - they’re just trying to adapt to and keep up with a high-demand service. Unfortunately, however, this can lead to really low-quality projects that end up costing homeowners like you more money in the long run. Or leave you with a disappointing finished product.

Cabinet painting is not a simple process, and it needs to be approached with the right tools, products, expertise, and experience.

To help you make an informed decision when you choose your professional painter, we thought we’d share an inside look at our process. This is the level of attention to detail and care you and your home deserve.

What’s Involved in Painting Kitchen Cabinets?

Ready?

  • Day #1: Remove and label all doors, organizing and taping the hardware for efficient reassembly. We also roll out Rosin paper on the floors, mask cabinet door openings with paper, mask walls, backsplash, and appliances, and install plastic walls to totally seal in the kitchen. We want to impact your home as minimally as possible! We then sand and clean all the cabinet surfaces with acetone to remove food and grease. Finally, we spray a primer coat with BIN primer. Full day, right?
  • Day #2: Lightly sand over the primed coat from the day before, then spray a light first coat in the same order in which we primed. After the first coat dries, we wipe everything down with a clean tack cloth and apply a second coat. After THAT’S dry, we remove all paper and plastic inside the containment walls, remove our trash, wipe down the surfaces again, and perform a final sweep.
  • Day #3: Sand and clean the doors with acetone, apply a coat of primer, allow to hang dry, lightly sand, wipe down, and follow with 2 more coats. We let the surface dry, and then lightly sand between each coat.
  • Day #4: We’ll bring your doors back to your home, wrapped carefully in moving blankets. We then reinstall the doors and drawers, making any necessary touch-ups after they’re in place. Next, we wipe down the doors, drawers, and cabinet bodies, clean your counters, sweep the floor, and remove all of our tools and equipment.

At this point, we also will carefully review your cabinets with you to make sure you are 100% satisfied. We also take this opportunity to discuss long-term care, the full curing process, and share our recommendations for cleaning.
